FreeView Installation

FreeView and FreeOView require a computer with installed Java Runtime Environment version 1.3. The operating systems supported by this environment are Sun OS, any 32-bit Microsoft Windows system, Linux and Mac OS X. The Java Runtime Environment can be downloaded from java.sun.com.

To install FreeView or FreeOView, just download freeview.zip and unpack it in the directory of your choice.

Both programs are packed in Java archives (files with extension .jar) that can be run from a command prompt with "java -jar FreeView.jar" or "java -jar FreeOView.jar". Alternatively, on Microsoft Windows systems this can be done simply by double-clicking on the java archive icon in windows explorer.

In order to be able to save dendrogram images both programs require the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) version 1.1. If JAI is not installed in your computer, the programs will work normally, but will give a message about missing JAI upon initialization and the image saving options will be disabled.
